About the artist
I am a 40 year old stay-at-home Dad and I seem destined for mosaics. I can remember seeing a picture of a mosaic in an art history book in high school and even then I was amazed and fascinated that the make-up of the image was thousands of tiny tiles that were each hand cut and placed. Many years later, on a trip to Italy, I got to see ancient mosaics in person. I could not stop looking at them and I felt the desire to touch them- so that I could feel what I was seeing.
Since childhood, I have had a love of art. Over the years I have tried my hand at many different forms; drawing, painting, engraving and wood carving. But none of these really struck a nerve as my creative outlet. That all changed when I decided to try a mosaic as a gift for my wife Nicole. With no experience, few tools, some random ceramic tile and an art book with pictures of mosaics from Ravenna and Hagia Sophia, I set about making my first mosaic. The mosaic, a copy of a Degas sketch, was a hit and I realized I had found my passion - mosaics.
I have a love of learning and I continue to study art and the art of mosaics. I am mostly self-taught, but I have studied classic mosaic techniques with Luciana Notturni in Ravenna, Italy and Architectural Installations with Laurel True at the Institute of Mosaic Art. I am known for my versatility, impeccable workmanship and attention to detail. Each mosaic is handmade in its entirety by me.
